Getting started

Markpad is a place to write. You type markdown, and it turns into a clean, formatted page as you go. There is nothing to install and nothing to sign up for.

Write without an account

Open markpad.md and just start typing. Markpad saves your writing in this browser as you go, so you can close the tab and come back to it later. The status bar at the bottom says Saved on this device.

You can keep as many drafts as you like. They are listed in the sidebar under Drafts, and they stay on this device only.

Even without an account you get the whole editor: the toolbar, the templates, opening .md files, and every kind of download.

What signing in adds

An account is free. It moves your docs off this one browser and into your account, so a few more things open up:

  • Your docs are on every device you sign in on.
  • You can sort docs into folders, pin the ones you use most, search them, and get deleted ones back from Trash.
  • You can paste or drop images into a doc.
  • Markpad keeps earlier versions of each doc, so you can go back.
  • You can share a doc with a link, or publish a whole folder as a small website.
  • You can let Claude, or your own scripts, read and write your docs.

Your drafts come with you

When you sign in, Markpad offers to bring the drafts from this browser into your account. Choose Import and they move across. Each one keeps its address, so a link you copied earlier still works.

Need help?

You can open these pages any time from Docs in the editor. If something is not here, or something is not working, write to contact@markpad.md. A person reads every message.
